See images below PersonlFit Breastshields are Designed to recognise the diversity of different Nipple sizes that exists.
If you find your breast pump is a little uncomfortable in use, perhaps causing sore nipples you may need a breast shield with a larger ‘tunnel’ size.

When pumping the breastshield should allow the nipple to be drawn into the ‘tunnel’ without chaffing, there should be room for the nipple to expand naturally without causing undue discomfort.

Medela PersonalFit™ Breastshields are available in Five sizes as follows: 21mm, regular 24mm, 27mm, 30mm & 36mm to allow comfortable pumping for almost all nipple sizes (see image below).

Because we are not all the same size, Medela have developed the ‘Personal Fit’ Breastshield; these are suitable for use with all Medela breast pumps accept the Harmony Manual pump.

This customized breastshield system will accommodate the needs of most mothers. The Medela Personal Fit Breastshield is Designed as a two-piece system; the Breastshield connectors allow the interchanging of different sizes of Breastshields to accommodate a larger range of nipple sizes.

N.B: Standard breastshield tunnel width (as supplied standard with new Medela breast pumps) is 24mm - Medela breastshields including the Standard one piece, SoftFit and ComfortFit are supplied as 24mm.

Shortly after breastfeeding / expressing has commenced the nipples may become considerably larger than they were pre pregnancy; Difficulties can occur making expressing / pumping an uncomfortable or even impossible chore – Medela PersonalFit Breastshields can help prevent soreness due to the larger 'tunnel sizes' available, which allows the nipple to expand and move without binding and chaffing in the breastshield.

Expressing can also become difficult or uncomfortable for women with smaller nipples using the 'Standard' 24mm breastshield as the pump attempts to draw too much of the surrounding areola into the breastshield; this can be alleviated with the use of the 21mm Medela PersonalFit.
